China House Buffet
About this place
China House Buffet anchors a corner of Shamokin Dam with the kind of hospitality Platefolk looks for: a family-friendly room, a neighborhood pace, and a room that does not try too hard.
The menu keeps attention on what the kitchen actually cooks well: sushi, shrimp, and the kitchen's daily strengths. The fryer and grill do honest work with seafood when it is in season. Portions and pacing favor a real meal, not a tasting-room sprint.
Bring friends who like unhurried meals, or come solo with a book and a long drink. Weeknights usually run quieter than weekends. The listing address is 2686 N Susquehanna Trail, Shamokin Dam, PA 17876.
Put simply: China House Buffet is a Shamokin Dam place we would send a friend to - especially if they care about sushi done with care.
Before you visit, skim recent neighbor notes on the listing and confirm hours on the door. Platefolk keeps this page as a field guide, not a frozen brochure - the best proof is still sitting down for a meal.
What we value here is consistency: a kitchen that repeats its strengths, a room that does not treat guests like tickets, and a China House Buffet visit that still feels worth the trip across town. Bring curiosity, order something the staff recommends, and leave a short note afterward so the next diner arrives wiser.

Not bad prices, but they charge $4 for a drink with free refills, but they never get you refills, so your just stuck with your empty cup. Even if you ask for a refill they say ok 1 second and never come back. Decent food, sometimes cold and undercooked, but it's alright most of the time.
Def don't recommend. The food isn't good, found a hair in my food so I didn't eat anymore and they wouldn't even take monies off my bill. First time there and will NEVER go back.Food: 1/5
Honestly very average. The food was average and the service was average. The decor was nice and the dim lighting made for a nice atmosphere.Unfortunately nothing really made this place stand out from any other Chinese buffet.
some of the best general tsos, lo mein, and chicken nuggets I’ve ever had. Kinda wish they had more sushi options but that’s maybe because we were there for lunch, I imagine there’s tuna/sashimi etc during dinner and weekend services. Love the soft serve ice cream!Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5
This is a great restaurant. We were there at lunchtime and everything was hot and there was plenty of variety on the buffet line. Real nice atmosphere too.
Buffet had a great blend of both American (steak, ham, pizza, etc) and Oriental. Several serving areas so you never had to wait to refill your plate. Wait staff was attentive and quick. Will visit there often.
Hibachi was really good , fresh hot food . The guy cooking it was really friendly and niceThe Buffett food doesn’t really have good flavor . Some things were quite tastefulBut the service was great , friendly , clean
Impressive variety with plenty of choices across the buffet. The food is flavorful and there’s something for everyone. It can get pretty busy, especially at peak times, but the selection and quality make it worth the visit.Food: 5/5Noise levelLoud, but you can still talk
